MDAM + Peer Connections MB/MHERC Mindshift Book Club
The Courage to Be Happy by Ichiro Kishimi
The Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba, along with Peer Connections Manitoba and the MHERC Library, are pleased to offer an ongoing self-help book club called the Mindshift Book Club. We’re excited to announce the next session of the MDAM Book Club, made possible through the generous support of Edison Properties.
This five-week book club invites participants to explore themes of courage, connection, and well-being through guided discussion in a supportive, community-centred space. Together, we’ll read and reflect on The Courage to Be Happy by Ichiro Kishimi — a thoughtful follow-up to The Courage to Be Disliked — which explores how happiness, purpose, and interpersonal relationships shape our lives.

Previous Book Clubs
Our last book club session, brought to us by Red River Mutual, featured the The Mind-Gut Connection by Emeran Mayer, MD. This fascinating book explored the complex relationship between the brain and the digestive system, revealing how this connection impacts mood, decision-making, and overall well-being.
This book club ran for six weeks, and started on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, and ended on Wednesday, December 3, 2025. Meetings were held every Wednesday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm in the MHERC Library, located in the MDAM office at 100 – 4 Fort Street, Winnipeg. Space was limited to 15 participants and all spots were filled for this session.
Previously, the club has enjoyed exploring Atomic Habits, Atlas of the Heart, Essentialism, Keeping Finance Personal, and Rewire: Your Neurotoolkit for Everyday Life by Nicole Vignola.
We are pleased to announce there is no fee associated with this book club session, thanks to funding secured by Peer Connections Manitoba. A big thank you to Red River Mutual!
