Women in Mental Health Panel hosted by Red River College’s Campus Well-Being and the RRC Polytech Equity and Inclusion working group
The girl power energy in that room was strong. Hearing the stories and strategies offered by all these inspiring women made an impact on all who attended and joined virtually. It was an honor to hear their contributions to the mental health field. Their efforts on destigmatizing mental health are very much appreciated.
In recognition of International Women’s Day, MDAM’s Executive Director, Rita Chahal, was asked to join a Women in Mental Health Panel hosted by Red River College’s Campus Well-Being and the RRC Polytech Equity and Inclusion working group. The discussion addressed student mental health and the achievements and contributions of women in the mental health field.
Along with Rita, the panelists included Dr. Natasha Ali, a Registered Psychologist in Manitoba, Taylor Kerelluke, the Director of Operations at Candace House, Joanna White, the Indigenous Curriculum and Cultural Advisor at RRC Polytech and Nadine Powell, an instructor at RRC Polytech’s micro credential Shelter Support Worker program.
The panel discussion opened with an inspiring and empowering prayer led by Grandma Elder Ivey, who is part of the Indigenous Student Support team at RRC Polytech.

Thank you to Fizza Rashid for including MDAM in this important discussion.
Happy International Women’s Day.
