Men’s CBTm Program

This program is geared towards any man aged 18 or older, living in Manitoba who has either been directed or chose on their own to take a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy with Mindfulness (CBTm) course. Participants must be willing to participate in the research evaluation of the classes to join. No mental health diagnosis is required to register.

CBTm is an evidence-based educational program. The version we are delivering is for Men (Adults) 18+. According to the CBTm website, “Cognitive Behaviour Therapy with Mindfulness (CBTm) is designed to help you build resilience and improve your mental wellness.”

CBTm may be useful for people who are:

  • Struggling with anxiety and/or mood symptoms
  • Experiencing a negative impact to their life due to their mental health
  • Wanting to learn new skills to help manage their own well-being.
  • Parents or caregivers wanting to build skills to better support their children’s mental health and well-being.

Classes are led by a trained facilitator and held virtually over Zoom and/or in person at MDAM’s office. Sessions are approximately 90 minutes long and occur once per week for 5 weeks.

The classes include a PowerPoint presentation in lecture format. Participants are encouraged to discuss and ask the facilitator questions if they feel comfortable.

Skills practice will be assigned weekly. Participants are welcome to bring one support person to attend the classes.

Research Information for CBTm Program

To determine if the CBTm programs are helpful, individuals will be asked to fill out a set of questions for each class and following course completion. The questions will ask about their mental health, as well as gather feedback on the program. All information gathered is held on a secure server and data will be made anonymous.

This program will be delivered from June 1, 2024 – May 31, 2025.

The program will be delivered online via Zoom and/or in person at MDAM’s office, for 1 hour to 90 minutes per week for a total of 5 weeks per session. There is a maximum of 10 participants per session or 100 participants in total. We will alternate between delivering virtual and in-person sessions.

Women’s Speakers Series

The Women’s Speakers Series is a monthly online series via Facebook Live, airing the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7PM. The Speakers Series was created to give those who identify as women in our community a platform to speak about their stories in the open, and to feel empowered in doing so.

Featuring a different speaker each month, the series is based on our peer support model – we empower those who suffer from mental illness to share their lived experiences and recovery stories of hope in a safe and supportive environment.

Disordered Eating

Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba is pleased to announce our latest pilot project, our Disordered Eating and Body Image Workshop, and Peer-Support Group.

There is such value in sharing our stories and learning to re-write the narratives that often keep us locked in shame and self-deprecation.  Disordered eating, obsessive dieting, low self-esteem, diagnosable eating disorders, and other co-occurring issues are part of a mental health space that currently does not have provincial supports in place to sustain the growing demands of the community. MDAM’s goal is to continue to expand our peer-support-based programming, to provide further assistance for people in this space.

This workshop runs weekly for six sessions. The intention of having a longer spanning workshop is to provide education and skill-building while also creating a community around empowerment.

Disclaimer: MDAM offers peer support only, not clinical support.

If you are interested in signing up for our next virtual program, please fill out our online form:

Baby Blues and Better Days

The Baby Blues and Better Days course is offered by Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba. It is a free 6-week course for new mothers and their partners that addresses issues and concerns that can come with the birth of a baby, with special emphasis on post-partum depression. Attendees learn skills and coping strategies from facilitators who have lived experience with post-partum depression. A support group (in person or online) is offered after the course to provide ongoing help to parents.

Currently, we are offering this course four times per year virtually. The size of the group is kept small (maximum 10 registrants) to facilitate good conversations. Moms, partners, and babies are all welcome to attend virtually.

If you have questions or comments, please contact our Women’s Program Coordinator at 204-560-1463 or womensprogram@moodmb.ca
